How many tiles do I need?

With this tile calculator, you can quickly and easily calculate the required tile quantity for floor and wall areas. Tile size, joint width, and waste allowance for cuts and breakage are taken into account.

Calculate tile requirements

Enter either the width and length of the area in meters or enter the area directly in square meters. Then select the desired tile size.

The calculator automatically determines the required number of tiles and optionally includes a waste allowance of 5%, 10%, or 15%.

Recommended waste allowance

For straight laying patterns, 5% to 10% waste allowance is often sufficient. For diagonal laying or many cutouts, at least 10% to 15% should be planned.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many tiles do I need per square meter?

This depends on the size of the tiles. The larger the tile, the fewer pieces are needed per square meter.

What joint width is common?

For modern floor tiles, 2 to 3 mm is mostly used. For larger formats, 4 to 5 mm is also common.

Why is joint width considered?

The joint width affects the space requirement of the laid tiles and is therefore considered in the calculation of rows and columns. In most cases, the impact on the required tile quantity is minimal, but can lead to deviations with certain room and tile dimensions.

How much waste allowance should be planned?

For rectangular rooms without complicated cuts, 5% to 10% is often sufficient. For many cutouts or diagonal laying patterns, 10% to 15% should be calculated.

Can I calculate wall tiles?

Yes. The calculator is suitable for both floor tiles and wall tiles.
